Battery/ cell is kaput. Have been quoted silly prices to replace cell. Can someone advice if watch should be placed in a rubbish bin or is there alternative to get is fixed :?

Dan

If you do decide to 'bin it'. Maybe buy a Seiko solar powered watch . I have one . A few hours of daylight will keep it running for months and months .

A watch that I paid £200 needs service amounting to £120 is a little stupid I think. Second Seiko minimum charge is £190 (could well be more) and the watch was about £250

I can get the case opened (have tools) but the cell that I replaced previously must have been a dud or old stock- it did not last long.

Will not be buying another Seiko but will consider a Citizen Ecodrive. These come with 5 year warranty.

Thank you all for responding.

my first Seiko was bought for me in 1973 cost £50.
I still have it and also have 3 others plus my solar Seiko watch.
Solar (titanium) one is bees knees.
Got it earlier this year-- £160 ish.

Cant beat them .
Just my opinion though.

Where did you get it from so I don't make the same mistake?

The early batches of kinetics came with dodgy capacitors that Seiko refused to recall and service. My own kinetic had problems with the glued on face pieces behind the glass falling of and rattling around in the case.

With the old capacitors you can buy kits for 30 pounds and do it yourself (and you can probably pick up a new cell battery to replace the old capacitor for under a tenner if you already have the tools).

Don't bin the watch, put it on www.uk.freecycle.org, someone will have it and fix it themselves.
