So going to be doing a lot of DIY on the house...and years of painting ahead of me...1st job in rebuilding a room as an onsuite is removing part/replacing part of the 1st floor cimney breast and relining. HETAS came round last night (very nice chap) and I have to dismantle the top stack and rebuild around the liner.

I therefore need a high platform to work off. there are 6/7 metre towers around for about 500quid or I can get used scaffodl poles/joints etc for probablty the same money. Considdering the DIY toers inly take about 150kg weight (me plus 55/60 kg) would I be mad to considder buying some propper scaffolding for use when i need it? or is it going to be a monumental faff each time I need to sdo something.

I was thinking some 21ft poles 10ft jacks and 10 ft and 4ft poles for the cross bars with 21ft for the diagonals....

Towers seem easy to put up but how sturdy are they for high work?

Go for some kwikstage . Yes it is a bit heavy- but it's very safe and will hold a lot of weight.
Lots of it on ebay.
Good thing about it is- when you have finished with it- you can sell it on for the price you paid for it-- and sometimes more .

Thanks - will take alook...isit good for about 20-25ft platform height (got a tall chimney to remove)

Not worth the hassle. You can get a platform delivered and yours for a week for a bit over 80 quid. No brainer.

Yep- for one week.
Next week more money and week after even more .
Depends how long a person needs scaffolding.

My way- buy the kwikstage- take your time to do the job as and when it suits you-- and then sell it on and get your money back .
REAL no brainer.

I NEVER hire-- I buy .

Surprised you think like that Joe .

Yes it is - no problem at all.
That is why it holds its value.

It will depend how accessible the chimney is.

If it is just straight up from the ground then you may have a chance, otherwise it would be better to hire bespoke scaffolding.

Chimneys aren't one dimensional facades they have sides and a bit of depth. Last thing you want is brick falling off the back and causing damage.

As for buying one off towers. Bonkers.

bonkers ?
You are entitled to your opinion .

Kwikstage is not a Tower .
ps- if I have misread your post- I apologise.

Kwickstage is fine for some applications but not all. More versatile than a tower but no where near as versatile as bespoke scaffolding.

If the chimney requires a wraparound then kwickstage is about as good as a fart in a hurricane.

Buying stuff, even if it is for a short period means storing out of sight of ******, potential damage, losing bits plus the hassle of re-selling to more ******.....why bother.

Yeah it's been added to the swear filter like calling a Pakistani a ****.

Thing is a towerr of the righr height is about 200quid a week...and im slow, so would need id a good couple of weeks. Ill also have to paint the house and clear out gutters etc and as i dont like ladders...staging seems to be the better idea...

I get what youre saying about chimney depth, but its on the flank wall and about 8 inches of roof between the chimney side and edge of roof/gutter...im guessing i can put knee boards on the tiles and kneel on those?

You can also get 1,2, or 3 plank outriggers for the kwickstage. You just have to position the scaffold to suit. It really is easy.

I bought a 32' run - 20' high --including all boards, jacks, diagonal braces etc for £700 last year .Delivered
Fleaby- and the seller (trader) was from near Stoke.
Roving Bridge (company name) comes to mind .

Daft thing is- he's a scouser --but a ok one .
ps- the kwikstage is as solid as a rock. Each bay is 8' x 4'. Takes lots of weight .
otriggers are really cheap- peanuts . I did a chimney using them

The last tower I hired was 85 quid for a week. Same height as what you want. If you can't do that job in a week you shouldn't attempt it at all.
