I've converted my garage to a room
Brrr.... freezing right now

What kind of heater should I get?
Everyone says an oil filled heater?
Slow to heat up - but best option?

Just looking for opinions

Thanks

are you insulating it up to a modern standard or just a bit
what size is the garage???
more than around 10square meters will need at least 3kwh unless superbly insulated

hmmm... well its 5m x 2.4m
i spent quite a lot insulating - putting in a stud wall, insulating the ceiling
there still is a brickwall (for other reasons, i didn't want to have this insulated)
there's also the door frame - i need to fill in gaps with silicone to make more insulated
the door and window are single glazed

right now with a big jumper and gown on (at the same time!) i'm almost ok to work with no heating - except fingers get cold and i can't type on keytboard!

i've just ordered a 2kw oil heater from amazon
seemed a good price
u've got me thinking now if i should get a 3kw heater???

ok now - but when it gets colder... i'll only know then if i'm in trouble

let me know what u think

thanks

my suggestion would be both
giving you 5kw quick warm capacity
the fan heater will warm an area a lot quicker than the oil filled but unless its a decent one unwise to leave alone for more than around 30 mins in case it malfunctiones unlikely but possible

oil radiator has a time lag but safer for kids and pets

Generally speaking, 1 kW of heat per 14 cubic metres of space

I'm guessing the height as 2.4m therefore 5m x 2.4m x2.4 = 28.8 m³ ÷ 14 = 2.02kW

oooh... that was clever :)
i should be ok in that case
i'll just have to see how i get on when the new heater comes

in a well insulated house yes
we have a medium insulated draughty garage here :D

Used to have a 2.0Kw oil filled in the conservatory, (4m x 3m x 3m high)
We always had a draught from there as no doors to close it off. Once heater plugged in it soon warmed up and draughts stopped. After turning heater off it still retained heat for quite some time. Now had an extra radiator added to the C/H system and heater is put away in the loft.

seems a bit strange to ask for opinions when you've already ordered one :?:
