Rented property, washing machine plug top. No PAT testing had been done!

No surprise pat testing hasn't been done in a domestic property, I've never known it to be mandatory in domestic.
 
No, there is no legal requirement to PAT anything, anywhere. It can be useful as part of a rigourous I & T routine to ensure electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition, but on its own is of little value.
Unfortunately there are many companied who provide "PAT testing services" at ridiculously low rates (I've seen 25p per item!) who put 'pass' stickers on faulty equipment that could be identified by a decent inspection. I've also found safe new equipment being rejected because of ty=he leakage current in EMC filters.
 
Think the average DIYer could de a better job just using a butter knife for a tool :shock:
 
PAT is one of those things where its not a legal requirement and there is no requirement to label or keep any records of it, but if there was an accident with a piece of portable equipment, youd have a damned hard job of proving that you did infact maintain and inspect it if you dont do PAT or keep records!
