UK Customs

Nah- no joke . Even Elton john ones .

We go away abroad lots of times to none EU destinations each year.
People (Brits) at our hotels always talk about bringing back duty free fags etc .

I always say to them- I have never seen anyone stopped at customs here for a very very long time . In fact- each time we come back- no customs people are anywhere to be seen .

But- I tell them- thinking rationally (as I do) I'd bet the greedy smugglers put 'lots' of DF Fags in their cases- and it's the cases that get scanned when they arrive back in UK airport. .Then they get nabbed.
I reckon- the folks who put a few extra fags in their 'carry on' at departure airport--are always ok .
What do you lot think ?.

Not another bragging thread about little Peter. FFS.

Dont be daft Joe-
It is a seriouse thread.
It's a subject everyone talks about at departure airport .

Considering the price of fags is /seems to be more than dirty drugs- these days- the addicks- always consider taking a chance .

What a plonker. As if anybody is going to admit to what I've brought in wrapped up in me socks.

Though my flatmate when I was a student was taken in and had a cold metal tube shoved up his chutney locker and they had a rummage around. He was a dodgy looking character though, one of the top cardiologists in the country now would you believe, they pulled him when he was coming back from a conference he had presented some of his research findings.

So they care not who you are, if they don't like the look of you it's cold steel every time.

Smoking is a disgusting practice and I always refuse to bring back fags.

Never do it at airports customs is to tight.
Ferries not a problem, always use to do it with Drink/fags.

Watched a program on tv a few weeks ago. At UK airports almost all flights from the Canaries, (Spanish, but non EU) had the luggage x rayed on arrival at the UK. Customs then identified the suitcases deemed worthy of further investigation. Customs officials then stopped the people when they picked their suitcases off the carousel. So if you've never seen anyone stopped at customs on their way back from Tenerife, Lanzarote etc, then the chances are, they haven't risked it either.

PS me and the ex wife, used to do the tobacco run to Calais/ Belgium once a year (for our own personal use) One year we went to Calais and could hardly get any tobacco whatsoever. At the Calais ferry terminal though, about half a dozen people came in with large sacks of tobacco, opened the sacks and proceeded to flatten the 50g packs inside, by stamping on the packs. Anyway, they were hiding the tobacco in all manner of places, even had kids with them in pushchairs, so the kids were sat on hundreds of pounds worth of tobacco. Young kids with back packs too.
About half way across the channel, I asked one of the people if I could buy 30 packs of tobacco off them , to which the reply was "Nah mate, I can make a fortune selling this back ome for £3 a pack." I replied that I was willing to pay £2.50p a pack." But if he wasn't interested, then the best of luck getting off the boat at the other end. He followed me half way through the ferry before saying he'd sell me 50 packs for £2.60p a pack.
   (bloody cheaper than we could buy it in France)

Then you burned the stuff and it made you ill. Why bother?

Do you honestly believe it on these programmes when they pull someone picking up a suitcase full of cigs that its because they thought they looked suspisious.

Just pick the one that looks like a council tenant.
