I have a traditional stlye pull doorbell that was disconnected during a recent refurb. I want to get it going again and was wondering how to do so. I dont have the orginal chime and was wondering if it could work with a modern chime.

Any advice on what to do and how to get it working would be much appreciated.

Just buy a new chime and connecvt it up, according to the instructions, with your pull switch replacing the push button.

BTW, what is that grey cable for coming out of the ceiling?

would it work with a wireless chime as I havent got any wiring in place?

The grey cable is a CAT6 cable that will be needed for a CCTV camera.

I done a similar thing using a freidland portable bell/transmitte unit , the transmitter bit had a pair of auxilary contacts that you wire to that old pull thing, providing that the normally open switch on it still functions

Not easily; a wireless bell push contains a battery and a transmitter that sends a signal to a receiver incorporated within the chime. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you may be able to break into a wireless bell push and connect your existing "pull" across the button contacts.

Having said that you would need to be able to access the wireless bell push to replace the battery and get a pair of wires from it to the existing "pull"
