I have a security lighting in the back of the house but the sensor doesn't seem to work through the connection from the wall switch. I recently tried to replace the security light but when I switched on using the wall switch the light came on but stays on. I thought it was a faulty kit but when I connect it using aa ordinary plug and connect through the wall sockets it works perfectly. Does the problem lies in the wiring in the wall light switch? :(

Assuming it worked before it sounds like you have connected it up wrong at the sensor.

Wiring doesnt change itself.

What are the connections at the switch, and at the sensor? Posting photos may help.

That may be how how the switch is wired.

To work with the PIR when 'OFF' and permanently on when 'ON'.

It is a whole unit that is bought from any diy stores, the unit works(comes on when motion detected and off after a set time) when connect via an ordinary household plug but remains on when wired to the wall swtich when switch on(connected through existing wiring).

Does the light operate with the switch in teh off position?

Have you got a test meter (not a neon screwdriver)_?

sometimes they do come on and initialise, so you need to keep out of the detecter zone, this sometimes takes a while and gives the impresion its faulty.
also with some models you inadvertently latch the sensor on if you switch the power off and on to soon.

You obvioslly have power at the light as it is lit, so aside from you connecting it different, then it should work the same in both instances

No, the light doesn't operate in the off position. I will try and make this clearer.

I moved into this house nearly built 13 years ago and light has always been this way. I switched it on and it will remain lid all the time the switch is on, so I thought the sensor is faulty. I went and bought 1 from argos and replace it but the issue was still there. So to check it out, I fit an ordinary 13A plug to the newly bought light and plug it into the socket it works fine. It switches on the minute it detect movement and switches off at a set time. So out of curiousity, I did the same to the old unit and it work fine too. That is why I came to the conclusion that it has to do with the wiring to the light switch on the wall. I will try and upload a photo of the wiring when I have a chance.

Yes it would seem the switch is 'wrongly' wired.

Perhaps the previous owner wanted it like this.

It does sound like it. Perhaps the last owner got fed up with the light coming on every time there was a cat/gust of wind/when the boiler started up, etc

We can advise on wiring, but , again, pics of the existing wiring of the switch and the connections on the back of the light are needed.
