Hi all

First post here, so I hope this is in the correct section. Anyway there's a leak, I believe just behind bath taps and it's made the wall go mouldy. You can see in the last pic where it appears to be dripping down the wall. I really should have gotten it sorted ages ago but I've not had the time or resources to do so until now.

Not really sure how to approach this. Do I need to take all the old sealant off and completely reseal around where the bath meets the tiles? Does the wall need re plastering or something? Can I just put some good quality sealant over the stuff that's already there?

Your expertise is MUCH appreciated!

Thanks!

I was thinking perhaps line some toilet paper around the floor underneath the bath, having a shower as usual and then check where the paper is wet in order to locate the leak.

Or film the area while I shower

It's a rented property. What resources do you need? Get the landlord to sort it, that should have been your first thought. His fixtures/fittings are causing problems to his property. It will always be his responsibility to sort that type of problem.

Faulty shower door.

Hold the hose and spray the corner of the shower door and watch the water p1 s s out.

Well, it's part rent, part own so they're only liable to repair structural issues. I think a rotting wall is a structural issue though, or at least it will be if left for long enough.

I'll await their response; hopefully they'll oblige.

Yea, that's one of the many places it leaks. I wasn't aware of the full extent of the damage until I removed the acrylic side panel today. There was quite a big puddle after I had done showering. Luckily the floor is concrete and not wood because I imagine the neighbour below me would be getting a free shower too!

There's no guarantee he won't be hammering on your door before long.
Concrete floors are not waterproof.

Well I'm liable for the repairs myself.

Can I just silicon over the existing sealant? The stuff there isn't silicon; it's some white stuff. Seems like it all needs redoing as it leaks everywhere.

Clean away the old sealant make sure its dry then reseal with silicon,

can you take off the frame and rebed it with sealant put it back and seal the edge, that way you would be sure its not the shower panel

How about the sealant around the bath? Can I just put new sealant over it or do I need to remove the old stuff first?
