I have a bit of an OCD issue when it's bed time and I make sure I switch off the wall sockets in my kitchen at night. On a few occasions I have noticed that a certain double socket, which has no appliances in it, is switched on. Neither myself of my partner have used them so they should still be off. Any logical reasons why this is happening? The rcd doesn't trip or anything. Thanks in advance.

Could be the switch mechanism is shot, and the plate needs replacing.
So is it one or both of the switches that are shot or is it just one that keeps turning itself on?
Because if its both - then I would go with the ghost or you have a sleep walking problem.

  1. You are mistaken about turning them off.
  2. They really are both faulty in a way which makes them turn themselves on.
  3. You have a poltergeist.
  4. You or your partner are somnambulists.
  5. Your partner is trying to wind you up.
  6. A friend or neighbour with a key is trying to wind you up.
  7. You are a troll.

If I've not missed any possibilities, shall we start a book?

You missed: Some object, you wouldn't normally think of, gets regularly pushed up against the socket.

Thanks.

Replace with this:

Problem solved.

I am not mistaken. It's happened a few times, I thought my parter was pranking me, he is away so only me in the house. I defo turned them off as, like I say I have OCD when it comes to turning switches off. There is no item near them to knock them, this was an initial idea when it happened a while back so I have moved everything, after my partner said he wasn't doing it. No one else has access to my home. If I sleepwalk it's news to me but honestly I'm far too lazy, have never woken up in odd places or had experiences of it. If it is a poltergeist which always seems to crop up in the answers, (hence why I asked if there was a logical reason) then they like to prank me but only on these two switches, no others. I am not a troll, I'm genuinely after help, I have better things to do with my time than troll. I don't know the ins and out house electrics so was hoping for some helpful info because at the end of the day I just want my home safe!
