Garden lighting wiring

Hi,

I have just had an electrician from rated people quote to install some garden lighting, he has proposed to wire it into the current wiring in the utility room.

Does it not need to be wired to the consumer board?

It will be but on the utility rooms circuit.

I thought external stuff needed its own RCD protection, and direct connection to the consumer board?

No, not its own

and direct connection to the consumer board?

No, no reason for that.

Conversely, what you are thinking would be prohibiting internal fixtures on circuits which go outside.
