Well where to start, just bought two semi cottages that will be knocked together into one large cottage. Both have storage heating at the moment. It is very remote site, so Oil is my only real option (I get a discount at work in heating oil)

Now I am doing as much of the renovation myself. Was wondering are whole house vent systems with heat recovery worth looking at, at this stage?

The walls are solid 2 - 3 foot thick, I plan to insulate the whole house.

Is underfloor heating worth considering? The house is for my parents, who will be home most of the time, so heating will be on fairly constant.

Just looking at ideas that are best for running cost.

Many Thanks

Radiators and oil boiler. Straightforward and it works.
Wouldn't worry about other stuff.
Go for solar electric if roof is suitable and you get it free.

Air source heat pump is a possibility.

Many thanks, simple is good esp for who will be living there, hehe.

What advantages are sola I've never thought about it, how does it work? Also is a combi oil boiler best as it's only them 2 living there.

Would go for unvented cylinder and oil boiler as the boiler will
last much longer. Combi boiler get a bashing having to fire every time the tap is turned as a result they don't last as long.
Also if you get the free electric you have the immersion for some electric hot water for free with a tank.
A combi if short on space but have an electric shower shower for backup should the boiler fail for hot water to wash.
