Have tried to replace double light switch (for separate hall and outside light - both singly operated). There are red, yellow and blue wires and a small piece of red which fell out when opening switch. Put red to L with small piece looping to other L and yellow and blue to separate L1's but this affects the light in the study (it flickers/stays on) Didn't take proper note of where the wires went before as assumed this was straightforward. Any advice gratefully received.

Do the two lights function correctly off the switch?
The flickering maybe down to a coincidental fault, rather than one being introduced.
I would first investigate at the switch/switches of the flicker light for loose connections, then at the fitting.
Just in case the replacement switch is looped in live to the flickering one, I would check that you have the termination tight and good contact of the copper ends.

As above. It would seem you have wired the switch correctly.

The switch does give power to both hall and outside light but more power seems to go to light in study(i.e. brighter). Have not replaced any other switches. Did try to put up new ceiling light in study (light that is coming on) - but reverted to original ceiling rose. With switch in hall disconnected light in study works normally.

If the light in the study "stays on" when you have the light in the hall connected and the study switch off you have two feeds!
The external light does't have a pir, by chance ? What happens if you remove the link wire that dropped out when you removed the switch ?

You need to check this light, with the power off.
Check all connections are sound.
Note down exactly how it's connected, and report back.
Be sure to tell us which WIRES are from which CABLE, so we know exactly how it is. Pictures would be even better.
So that sounds like it was an historical problem, rather than anything to do with your switch replacement? (so original post/topic a little misleading in that regards!)
