Porch roof access

Hi guys,

We have a porch at our back door; it basically encompasses what was an external cupboard, and moved the door out a metre or two. In the awful weather, it started leaking a fair bit - it's probably the flashing, as there was a crack in the sealant running most of the length. To properly inspect, and probably re-do the flashing, I need to get on to the roof.

I've never walked on a roof before - looking at the picture, am I going to have to do a bit more than throw a ladder against the wall and tread carefully?

Thanks in advance for any advice; I appreciate that this is probably an idiotic question.

I've watched plenty of roofers walk on far steeper roofs that that. As long as the tiles are dry and you're wearing reasonably grippy shoes then I can't see a problem. You'll need to be sitting/crouching anyway to get to the pointing above the flashing so no problem. If you feel you need a bit more grip then you should be able to slide a couple of tiles up to give you a foothold on the top edge of the course below.

I wasn't sure if I'd need to put a board down to spread the weight, or if one need scaffolding to avoid destroying the roof. Always best to ask, I think!

Alas no, I can't reach the middle, and any repairs would be questionable at that sort of arm length. Plus, I hate leaning on ladders

with leadwork id suggest getting a price off a tradesman first, they will get the lead cheaper for a start plus they will be confident on ladders
