Hi I am looking to buy a new family car with restricted funds, I was looking at a xsara Picasso, read there a good car but am being told the vauxhall zafira is a lot better, but due too the funds am doubtful I would be able to get one with decent mileage on it.

Has anyone had a Picasso and could tell me if they are a good car. My knowledge on cars is ok but not great.

I'm also looking at a renault scenic as a back up, opinions on which car would be great.

Thanks :D

Out of those, I'd go for the Citroen, I think......seems to be the most reliable, at the end of the day. Nice diesel Hdi motor, quiet and economical.
Like every used vehicle, avoid ex rental / taxis or those that have been to the moon!

Thanks. I have found that the citroens are reasonable priced compared to the vauxhall, i was going to get one that hasn't got a great deal of mileage on it, max 50000 really.

50K is practically new and will serve you well for many years. I'd insist on long warranty, fully stamped service record book and 12 months MOT. If in doubt, walk away.

Citroen I suppose ........

Yeh I only said 50k as I bought a 02 fiesta years back, it had 49k on it and lasted ages. Not sure whether buying from garage or private so warranty will depend. Thanks

i had a mk1 zaffy,at the time i had it nearly 2 years NOTHING went wrong with it at all.
searching a dedicated forum for the zafira proved fruitless, thus my thinking was they were bomb proof.

if your going down the picasso route, then check this forum out for common problems etc.

All modern diesels seem to be more complicated and less reliable than in the olden days but I believe that Citroen/Peugeot still make the best ones.

Thanks for the replys, I'm now considering a vauxhall meriva but still have the Citroen in mind.
