Tube light problem

The PF capacitor is also a part of the circuit that puts the back EMF voltage spike from the inductive ballast across the tube when the starter opens. Without the capacitor the spike has to pass through the mains wiring making the voltage spike across the tube smaller and less likely to strike the tube first time the starter opens. Poor starting shortens tube life.[/quote]

The PF capacitor is straight across the mains input and has no effect on the back EMF of the choke. The source impedance of the mains is extremely low and the capacitor males no difference to it.

So your saying the round thing is broken?

If by round thing you mean capacitor, no no one is saying it is broken.

If you mean starter we are not saying that is broken either, you have bought the wrong type, probably a low voltage one for series operation. As I have already said put back the original starter which you did not need to change with the tube anyway.
