Hi there

I'm trying to figure out whether I have a shared supply. I've phoned Thames Water and they don't seem to know.

My neighbours on either side have water meters but I don't. Does the fact that my neighbours have water meters mean that the supply isn't shared?

Many thanks

turn the water off and wait for anyone looking around the street baffled

they can install remote meters now within your property so shared is not a problem

Do you live in a terraced house? Then there could be a common supply which is shared by the terrace. But your Utility wouldn't (shouldn't) have fitted meters in the neighbour's without changing any common supply.

Do you each have individual external shut-off's? Or is there a single shut-off for a number of houses?

Thanks. I don't actually want a meter but am just trying to figure out if I have a shared supply.

Hi

No, it is a semi detached. The house I'm attached to has its own external shut off. I can't find mine and the water company have been around once and couldn't find it either!

Thanks

well as said if you have an old usually terraced property you may have a shared supply

look to the left and right on the street for a water stopcock and iff you have a street/garden stop cock and those either side do then your not shared assuming you are in a house and not a flat

i halved my costs without altering my consumption with a meter fitted

Ask your neighbour's permission and shut off the observable stop-cock and then see if your water has been shut off.

Is your neighbours shut-off in his garden or out in a black top pavement?
Often they can be overgrown or tarmac'ed over - where his is positioned and comes in line with his house so, probably, will yours.
