50mm hbp soil connection to 40mm solvent waste

I have a lovely brown hbp soil pipe with a 50mm pipe coming into my bathroom. I need to connect this to my shower waste which is wanting a 40mm solvent pipe. So I thought a 50 x 40 solvent weld reducer is what I needed. Off to tool station to get 27594 http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Solvent+Weld+Reducer/p27594

Fits the 40mm pipe great but its the same width as the 50 pipe so it won't go around or inside it. Anyone know what I need to get?

I had thought about replacing back to the soil pipe but can't find anyone who does brown 40mm and it would look odd with black!

Lesson learnt never do jobs when merchants are shut - unless you know what you are doing!

easy, you need a socket to join the two end

Or in other words you got the wrong reducer, you wanted a pipe x pipe reducer.

Further to DIAs informative input, I think you need the reducer you have mate & one of these, a 50mm socket;

Nopethat one is pipe to socket as well.

A Straight connector is the easiest way to go now as in the link richard the 3rd posted
