£200 a day before tax and expenses say £140 a day in hand for a
Time serverd tradesman is very good indeed.

Look at it like that.

Asking a going rate without a location is as pointless as giving a price.

Not enough info to really judge, but 12 days is stretching it a little i think. And i am not exactly speedy Gonzales.

You also don't consider what a company will charge as opposed to a sole trader.

Haggling is also flocking annoying.

If you want to haggle move to bloody Riyadh.

No its not reasonable!! The plumber should be happy you let him inside your lovely house and allow him to work for you, if you are feeling kind offer him your left overs at the end of the day, but be careful if you give him too much he will keep coming back!

Its not like he has a mortgage to pay and gas exams and insurance and deisel, and a van, and tools, and tax and VAT and consumables and advertising and holiday pay and a pension.........

You say you don't want to get another quote because 'the guys work is good'

Why are you here??

I have a friend who will do the job for you at a third of that price. But his name is olav. And he drives a horse.

'Tis tricky and you're stirring a nest. You could pay less and get a better job or more and get a worse one, and vice versa. Get some quotes on an even level and go from there.

Not enough info to talk about price, but if you like the guy, and have a good relationship go for it..

It's truly depressing the way some of the public treat plumbers and tradesmen when it comes to money..

Plumber has said it will take him 10 to 12 working days
he quoted at first 2800 but after haggling i got him down to 2200

Does that include his return flight from Poland or Turkey?

Or, as he seems to haggle, then from the middle east?

If you are considering paying a plumber £200 per day then when you employ the registered gas engineer to install the boiler and gas works then budget for £100 per day as a good plumber is worth twice that of a gas engineer. ;)

Gas bods are two a fookin penny, a good plumbing/heat engineer would pizz all over a gas bod.

Over the last few months I've noticed a marked increase in work & advertised jobs for Plumbers. Good, time served experienced Plumbers can command a much higher income on sites now. Private work in customers homes on a self-employed basis, I'd charge at least £35/hr - regardless of the type of work.

House extensions are a PITA to work on, maintaining services, tight sites, neighbours & overbearing customers. If he's a good qualified guy, you've got a bargain there mate.

How much does your dentist earn per day??

I don't know, he's always had his hands in my mouth when I've tried to ask him. My Dentist is on £90K/year, given his house, car & lifestyle. He's not cheap, but he's the best. Funny, that's what he says about me too!!

Pay peanuts all you get is chims.

My gas guy is in his late 20s and knows his stuff, charges £50 to service a boiler or gas fire and about £30 an hour for everything else. He is a self employed sole trader.

Came to my house recently to cap off my hob so I can remove it, was on site about an hour after we talked about boiler move etc as well.

Can't complain really.

It's better up north :)

People willing to pay 120/hour for maintenance on car. Plumber will go to your house, risk being attack by dog or customer lol, and give you comfort heating and fresh water. Boiler work much harder than your car.
