I just want to get this right before I start, I've got two internal corners to tape and fill, but the adjacent wall has been skimmed with plaster already.

Is the tape and fill ok to use on the plaster surface ?

Thanks Steve,

I was told by a friend to apply caulking where the ceiling meets the wall rather than tape and fill is that right ?

So far joints I've done on the walls look reasonable, to me, I can't understand why it says to spread the second layer 300mm wide.. I ended up taking most of it off when I did this.. didn't want to leave it too proud

No he's wrong use tape along ceiling as well it will only crack using caulk the reason to spread the second coat is so you can taper it, this is done with your taping knife and then when dry it is given a light sand ,BTW there is a technique to taper using a taping knife hold your knife in your hand with your index finger on the side you want to taper and apply a little pressure and swoop up and down for walls and left or right for ceilings then repeat on other side of joint this should leave a nice tapered joint and then give it a sand when dry only going very light in the middle so you don't go to hard And the scrim or paper tape shows through

Thanks Steve, good thing I've half a bag left.

One mess up I made was the filler was setting in the bucket and I wanted to get a second coat out of it so kept adding water hoping to allow the first coat on the wall to dry. I kept adding and adding and applied the second coat which took 2 days to dry  I found this out the next day when I started sanding and the filler was congealing and coming off.

ANYWAY

I didn't taper correctly I don't think but the joints SEEM to look seamless with the plasterboard, I didn't get the hang of second coat as did the job before you posted but still if I'm honest I don't quite think I understand the technique. I'll look about on youtube to try and get a visual understanding
