Help! Basic plumbing question

I'm going to apologise in advance for asking what is going to be an extremely basic question.

We've noticed a smell under our bath for a few days and after taking off the bath panel have seen a pretty fundamental problem - two of the pipes aren't connected anymore!

Can someone give me any basic (and it'll need to be basic!) guidance as to how we re-connect these.

i.e. Does the connector go on the pipe coming out of the floor and then get tightened onto the waste pipe from the bath?

Trying to avoid calling out a plumber three weeks before Christmas - any guidance greatly appreciated bearing in mind it seems such a simple repair (alas not quite simple enough for us)

It's a bit difficult to see, but push the white round plastic collar nut onto the pipe from the floor, then the rubber washer (taper out) then connect the two together.
As you hold push the parts together as far as they will go, tighten the round collar nut fully and the seal should hold.

Many thanks John - first problem solved.
Where we've been wiggling the waste pipe from the bath about, we have however now got another small leak from what seems to be the plug-hole.

Can we use some sealant (plumbers mate?) underneath as a short term fix or do we need to take the plug out itself and re-seal from above?

p.s. even more ashamed to say that my wife managed to fix this based on your suggestion. I've now officially lost my last remaining man points.

Sounds like you are in the dog house, Pete
Unfortunately, if the bath outlet is leaking, there's no external bodge will sort it......it will need to be dismantled, cleaned and reassembled with a good squidge of silicone sealer between the outlet and the bath surface inside.
Once reassembled, they don't like to be disturbed!
Wishing you luck......there's rarely decent access below any bath, but the leak must be sorted to prevent floor damage and smell. Do catch any drips with a Tupperware container or similar in the mean time!

You would probably get away with tightening the screw in the middle of the plug hole.
