hi all,

Grateful for advice. Lead cladding around one of my upstairs windows came loose in the adverse weather. The contractor who carried out the temporary repair has recommended replacing the lead (which is neither energy efficient or cosmetically pleasing) with felt and uPVC. I wanted to run this past the experienced folks here prior to taking this forward. I intend get 2 or 3 written quotes for this, the contractor I have been dealing with suggested it may be around £1,000. Any negative experiences around uPVC or is this a sensible move?

Many thanks.
Alex

^ what he said

But if your heart is set on PVCu you'll need to get the roof done to accommodate the new overhang and you'll need to go for a quality textured PVCu or composite PVCu rather than the horrible wood grain shiplap stuff.

The OP never bothered replying in his other thread so I wouldn't hold your breath here ......

Many thanks for the responses. And I AM paying attention Freddy! Will consider following the suggestions.

Part of the reason I'm considering the switch is that the lead adds no aesthetic value and its oxidation has discoloured the building somewhat. If done properly, I believe the UPVC will enhance the house's appearance.

Warmest Regards, Alex.

Sheet copper would be excellent . If hardmetalking is lurking he could give a ball park price ;)

If it was lead, the staining may have been caused by them not applying patination oil.

Remember that if the upvc is not of a similar colour to the existing roofing, it may need planning permission.

I must say it looks ugly how have you ended up with a lead box on your roof ?

Then you don't need to worry when a nosey neighbour complains to the council, and the Planning Enforcement officer comes round and asks you to make a planning application.

In fairness to the OP it already looks shoite and the lead or whatever the hell it is is hardly matching anything anyway.
