Rendering Pond walls

I`m currently building a concrete block pond .

I`ll be rendering the internal walls next , prior to painting .

Just wondered if its possible to use 1 coat of render as long as the walls are flat , or does it have to be 2 coats .

Also , what is the minimum thickness required ?

Any advice would be a great help :)
 
Are you using a butyl rubber lining?. Is the render mean't to be the waterproofer? or if not what do the waterproofing agents instruction say?
