How much more space do pocket doors consume in terms of width compared with non-pocket door plasterboard partitions?

An American design where the door slides into a hollow partition wall.

It works with houses made of wood and drywall.

As woodhead they will fit in a standard partition ........ here's one I did earlier .....

My builder seems to think that I will have to double up the partition so that I have to have 100mm one side then the door of (however thick) then another 100mm. is that wrong?
What does your detail show?

The extent of the architect's drawing of the pocket door on the en suite.

That's not a pocket door. It's a sliding door

I know. And I want a pocket door before all the partitions are built and we have the opportunity to do it.

But question still stands - is it true everything has to be doubled up? 100mm on both side of the door plus door thickness? Minimum either side would be what, 40mm instead of 100mm?

Do you need glasses? Or have you missed the detail posted in this thread?
