Aaagh! Sorry, I was thinking of 20A switches.
Yes.

They are in the same grey area as these

which are also not BS 1363 accessories.

433.1.204 says "...may be supplied through...". Maybe JBs and switches are not "supplied"? Although only informative, A15 shows junction boxes, and who in their right mind would say that you can't use crimps because they are not BS 1363 accessories, so is it a stretch to say you can have suitably rated switches?

The end result is the same - AFAIC it is just a question of do you ignore them or list their use as a departure.
It doesn't say that "only" BS1363 accessories may be supplied..., but as you said, this has been discussed previously.

It is your attitude which concerns me. Given the ease with which so many of use here have been able, at very short notice, to blow any idea that the table is worded in a way which makes compliance obvious out of the water, for you to say that you don't think it is unacceptable is like a civil engineer saying he can't see anything unacceptable about a bridge which wobbles so much that nobody can use it.
BAS, I have to say that your attitude concerns me, in suggesting that a provision of a standard that appears illogical may be ignored.
I don't think I have said that the wording is not in need of improvement, only that it is quite possible to comply with the table without needing to understand the reason for that wording.

For some reason I'm back in England doing some wiring, and want to be sure my work complies with BS7671 in every last detail.

I'm running a new circuit from the board to six lights and six fans. How do I know whether I need to use 1.0 or 1.5 sq. mm minimum for that circuit?

Just use 1.5mm. You will then have complied, without needing to think.
Well yes, I acknowledged that one could just use 1.5 sq. mm minimum for everything and be certain of complying. But clearly the table is not saying that you have to use 1.5 for everything as a minimum.

If I had a reel of 1.0 T&E already to hand and wanted to use it, how would I be able tell if that would be compliant?

As you say, that point has been frequently discussed. Although, as you say, the word "only" does not appear, it is 'almost implied'. Don't forget that it is a specific 'dispensation' to use, in a particular situation, a cable of smaller CSA (in relation to OPD) than would normally be compliant. By saying that "Accessories to BS1363 may be supplied" by a ring final utilising cable with CCC ≥20A protected by a 32A OPD, it is not hard to interpret that as meaning that the dispensation only applied to a circuit supplying only BS1363 accessories. Let's face it, if they had intended that a ring final could 'supply anything', there would have been no point in their mentioning, or any need for them to mention, "accessories to BS1363" at all, would there?

Kind Regards, John

As already mentioned, I would think that supplied is the critical word.

Junction boxes (or 20A switches) are not supplied by whatever any more than would some solder used to join the conductor.

I agree, but it seems rather like another fudge to avoid stating what may or may not be connected to a ring final. It would also not be difficult to interpret that as meaning that possibly other things could be supplied by a ring final circuit.
