Vauxhall Combo 53 plate fault codes P0105, P1125, P1105

My van has intermittent engine light. I have obtained a code reader and this is what I have.

P0105 - Boost pressure sensor circuit range/performance
(8) Not present
P1125 - critical system malfunction 2 9( refer to checking procedure: trouble code description)
(5) Present
P1105 - Barometer SSensor wrong signal
(8) not present

What are the 5 and 8 in brackets? Will it say not present as the light was not on when testing?
I broke down a couple of years ago, loss of power. I re soldered dry joint on ECU. Would this have kicked up some codes?

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks. Bit worried about the critical malfunction.

Don't really notice any thing when driving. kicks out a fair bit of black smoke when changing 1st to 2nd and possibly not as much power as when I first got it. Been a couple of garages who were crap. Rather look in to it myself now

All generic codes, these and as such not overly helpful.
Personally I'd clear the codes and see if they return, and then see about how to clean the EGR valve.

What about the black smoke? What could that be. I mean it's thick black
 
Again, pretty common when the EGR valve is coked up...bloody awful things and put on this planet to curse me personally!
These things allow some exhaust gas to be burnt twice to lower combustion temperature and help reduce emissions.....I have to say they do work but they always give bother after a few miles.

I am a gas engineer so am pretty handy. Is cleaning the egr something I could do? or is it a defo pro job?
 
Sure to be something on youtube, I'd guess......not so bad, and they are cleanable to some degree. They take exhaust fumes from the engine and allow them to be reburnt, which is a fairly curious thing - hence why they coke up!

I've heard about it! But did not feel the need to be watching it!
 
John not sure if you will see this post still, I cleared my faults and have still got the p0105 and p1105 coming up. I haven't got round to cleaning the MAP sensor yet, is the barometric sensor the same as the MAF sensor?
 
The MAF sensor measures air flow into the engine (its just on the clean side of the air filter) and the MAP is the manifold air pressure.....a box screwed to the side of the throttle body. I would guess - and that's all it is - that barometric pressure would be read by the MAP.
Did you get anywhere with the EGR system? If the valve is slightly open - and its not meant to operate all of the time - the incoming air volume has to be less.

John, hello again
I have not found time yet to take it apart an clean. What with my breakdown (van has started fine today) I now have a list of things! Check wiring to the Starter motor and clean the EGR and MAP sensor. Might just put it in the garage for a few hours.
 
The good thing is, there are loads of these vans about - often enough, courtesy of the Post Office or British Gas (red or blue :eek:) so their problems will be known.
Any good independent garages near you.....diesel specialists, preferably? What you don't want is to haphazardly change parts - and we've all done that :whistle:

John, I did try PM you as you but I couldn't seem to do it. I had a look at the engine today. I can now locate the EGR. It is under the ECU. So I removed the air intake after the MAF sensor and all the way round to the front at the bottom. I stopped and put it al back as I had oil in the small pipe that comes off the air intake and in to the main engine and also down at the front of the engine..........Is this normal? or is my van about to blow up?
If normal I will do it again, then take the steel pipe out that is attached to the EGR and then the EGR itself.
The MAP sensor still eludes me, looked everywhere......
 
All pipes that you mention must be free of oil - particularly the smaller diameter ones. If there is oil in the pipes then any vacuum process just can't work, so drain them and then try the engine again.
There's no guarantee that every engine has the same set up of sensors....some are left out altogether!
I wouldn't worry too much about the oil being in those pipes at this stage, even within the main induction pipe....It's amazing what a turbocharger can pass.

There shouldn't be any oil in the pipes but not to worry about it at this stage? Contradictive? Where would the oil be passing from? I know had a split oil cooler so all my water ways were contaminated.... Any link? The van has a map sensor but it's called a charge boost in the book. Still can't find it
