I wish to change our CH to use a room stat instead of TRVs on all rads. We have a Worcester Bosch R30 HE boiler. Is it a job for a gas chap or an electrician, or both? Or can it be DIY?

Could be DIY if you're feeling confident, otherwise a heating engineer could do it for you

Has it got the built in control centre?
You're thinking of the ZWBR with the hateful Worcester text display that's a bogger to get external controls to work with, the R30HE is a ZWB which doesn't require so much shenanigans to make external controls work

steps:

acquire stat (wireless)
find out where to wire receiver to
do it.

that it?!?

That sounds good. Where should I start looking at how to wire in the stat? would that info be deep within the user manual? (if I can find it!)

You keep the TRVs and add the room stat which should have been fitted originally.

Not on an R30 HE. boiler of that era wasn't mandatory at the time to have a stat

It has always been good practice to fit a room stat.

Are you one of the do as little as you can get away with?

Let's not argue and hijack yet another thread. If I can fit a stat to my boiler then I will - just give me a pointer as to how, please! :)

Would an RF stat the way to go or is it a suitable time to look at Nest, Hive, automation, etc?

The new generation of nest will control both CH and HW schedules and temps, as well as learning your comfort preferences and giving you remote access. They are easy to install and there is plenty of instructions available.
I like the product... So, it's up to you!

Well spotted, Mugs.
With the said shenanigans, CAN you fit external controls? Worcester say no, except for the TR2. But they would, wouldn't they.

Is it possible to fit the Honeywell Connect to it? (sorry for hijack)

I have managed to get a Nest to work with a ZWBR successfully before now, but I can't quite remember off the top of my head what settings I changed!
