McAlpine traps the best traps & Plumbing products in the world!! Made in & around the second city of the Empire, truly a quality British product. Anyone just tighten them up hand tight??
I've always given them a wee nip up with my Cobras. Clearly this is a question for the Tradesmen, so DaftyDIYers & Google Warriors, but out!!!

If I can, I get them warmed up with hot water down the waste, before tightening them by hand... If my trap pliers are to hand I'll give them an extra nip! If I'm putting them in dry, then I'll go and get my pliers and give them a nip or two!

Those are supposed to be hand tighted only. If it leak after, you are not doing it right Lol!

Over tight can cause them to leak.

Using a plier will leave tooth mark on nut.

They are the mutt's nuts, I just twist by hand till the tail wags. Little smear of Silicone grease on the seals just to look after them.
Big Mcalpine building just up the road from me.

On a similar thread... How many of them do you all find with the rubber seal fitted the wrong way round? I find it a very common DIY mistake!

Notorious one I find is the seal to the waste connection being twisted or over-compressed, no matter how hard they tighten, it usually leaks.

Sometimes you do wonder...
I went to a job yesterday; customer was fitting a shower himself but wasn't keen on teeing into the vertical 22mm H&C supplies from main and uv cylinder in airing cupboard, so wanted a plumber to do it plus a couple of other bits.
I asked him where his boiler was, he looked at me oddly and then asked if I knew what I was doing! I asked "why" and he said "Because the boiler is there, right in front of you!" - he was pointing at the megaflow...
