uninhabited Roof window

Hi I need to instal 2
Velux style roof windows in a living area. The only style that will fit are ones that state they are only suited for lofts or uninhabited spaces . Will it still be ok to fit them? Also would the building inspector know?

Probably not if you don't tell him.

But there are other considerations like (1) will cutting the opening for the wondows make the roof (?) structurallyunsafe. (2) if you ever claim on your insurance would the un-notified windows be grounds for the insurance company to decline payment due to un-reported structural changes.

Or maybe one of your neighbours will notify the council.

How can an unsuitable window even be a choice?

How can a window not fit into a roof any way, and why can't you find one that is suitable and does fit?

Probably not because they are not part of the structure.

But if stupidity was a grounds, then yes they would not pay out.

It is on my extension. It is on the lower part of the roof. The second story is set in about 70cm. I only have about 500mm on the pitch . Not much choice there for light so the only window I found isn't for habitable space .

Its the u/value thats not suitable, they have a value of 2 when I think most windows are now below 1.2
