Hi

I know nothing about roofing/guttering/soffits/brickwork etc.

We've noticed some mouldy brickwork underneath the soffit where two external walls join.

Does anyone know what it is and what could be causing it?

Photos below.

Many thanks

have a look during rain. For example, if the downpipe was choked with leaves, water would flood out of that joint at the top.

Thanks. I had a look today when it was raining hard (and had been for hours) and the gutter and downpipe seems to be clear.

The mould goes right up to the soffit around the corner - well away from and above the guttering....

Check the condition of the cement pointing between the tiles and the soffit, and there should also be sealant between the soffit and the under tile.
Are the tiles in good order up there?
One wee point, I think I can see water marks on the underside of the gutter, top pic.....no sign of an overflow there?

Your felt is rotten at the eaves and water is not getting into the gutter

Well spotted, thanks. I haven't seen it myself (not got a ladder tall enough) but the window cleaner said it's clear. Will try to have a look myself. Will also have a look at the other things you suggest. Thanks again.

Thanks for that. Will find someone to have a look at it.

And that's why the wall is mouldy. Rain is getting through the rotten felt, and running through the eaves to the brickwork and keeping it damp - which is when the mould grows.
