If a bath tap is leaking.through the seal between the tap and.the bath. Is it best taking the tap off re-aligning the washer and perhaps with some silicone. Then re attach the 62s with new washers. Any way of doing it without removing the tap?

Try some plumbers mait above the back nut.
Trick is getting underneath the tap and getting the seal and bath super clean and check if the seal has hardened. So you will have to at least loosen the tap and lift it up. Would be much easier taking it off if you can.
Then if silicone I wont be able to test till set
Which is why I suggested plumbers mait 
You can let it ooze out around the nut and leave it and clean up any excess around tap base with a tiny flathead screwdriver and toothpick!

Bodge it with silicone or plumbers mait if you want but the correct way is to replace the washer under the tap.
