The pilot light is on and the gas is burning then there will be a series of loud clicks like the thermostat with interspersed ticking from the igniter. Sometimes the gas will then go out and relight again. This goes on all day .

Gas or combustion fault so not a DIY job.
So the advice is to get a competent gas registered engineer.
Be aware that most Servowarm boilers are overdue for replacement and many spare parts are no longer easily available.
