Worcester Bosch 28cdi filling loop dripping

Hello good people,

I received great help in the past using this forum so I'm here again with another issue, hoping someone can help me.

Our Worcester Bosch 28cdi Combi boiler (about 10 years old) has developed a fault where water is dripping from underneath drop by drop.

I'm definitely not going to touch it to fix myself, but I'm looking for advice as in what are my options here.

Please look at the image attached that I took from the documentation, where I have highlighted where the water is dripping from.

It's leaking from exactly where the plastic filling loop assembly (pointed in brown) attaches to the diverter valve (pointed in blue). I inspected it closely, a drop of water slowly develops and then falls.

Could it be the seal/washer on the inlet that is faulty?

Could it be diverter value itself?

I would be grateful if people could comment and let me know my options before I consider getting a new boiler.

We have a 28Cdi and had the same problem. We have a maintenance and service contract, and new seals on the joints solved the problem. I don't know the cost, as we didn't pay anything, but I suspect it wouldn't amount to much... assuming it's the same problem.
 
If you are lucky all it will need is the sealing "O" rings.

BUT also Worcester plastic bits have a habit of developing microscopic cracks which leak.

Also some of those water parts can be seriously seized tight and break when they are pulled out.

Agile, I have got the new O rings/seals to be replaced.

Please could you have a look at the below image I have taken of the inside of diverter valve where the filling loop assembly goes in.

Is that semi circle inside it normal? I was just wondering if it is supposed to be a full circle and something is broken that may be the issue?

The white mark seems to be lime deposited by a mains water leak from the diverter valve.

Those parts are somewhat tricky to work on.

Does the encircled bit look broken to you? Or is it supposed to be like that?

Yes, I know. I think that it is probably correct.

But the leaked part is a potential problem which should really be sorted out while working on the boiler

From the looks of it the black half circle located at the 11 o'clock position is a snapped piece of plastic from the original filling assembly, the cold inlet to the valve. WB supply a complete new filling assembly that is slightly different to the original but does fit and includes a new filling key. You do need to dig out that piece of black plastic though, and be very careful not to scratch the brass, as that's where the o ring seals to.

The image is proving to be a bit of an optical illusion :) The black half circle is physically nothing, it's just the darkness inside the valve and those white dots on what looks like snapped piece of plastic is just the shiny/wet surface inside the diverter valve.

The half circle at the 4 o'clock position as encircled in the image above is the only physical bit that I was suspecting is a broken piece of a full circle?
 
That's a good illusion! Looks just like broken plastic :) so do you have a picture of the black nozzle that came out of that hole?

Indeed it does, I hadn't thought of that perspective until you mentioned. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this proves! :)

Please ignore the numbers and other crap in the images of the nozzle that came out of that hole (this is because I made a little video of it from each angle and now had to play the video to take some images off it :p)

You will also see the O ring in one of the pictures that came out (which looked fine to me to be honest and that's when I started suspecting that half circle, but have got replacement O rings still)

Well the end looks complete, so I would just get a new one and fit it. You could try and fix it with a replacement o-ring if you can find one the right size, but you can get a complete new kit for £33.

Many thanks, everyone.

I have got new O rings so will see if they solve the issue. I hope it's not the diverter valve itself (which would cost 100+ to replace)

Will update here when I get round to replacing the O rings.

?? the leak is between the head and body of the diverter valve running onto the filling loop and dripping off (unless gravity runs uphill in your house), you can get a service kit for the valve but I wouldnt bother for the cost. I have never seen a leak from these cold mains water o rings.
