Hi,

I am replacing a bedroom carpet which has gone mouldy in the corner (1ft length * 0.25ft width) .
This is due to a leak from the adjoining bathroom.
The leak has been rectified ( as of 5 days ago) and am now looking to replace the carpet with a laminate.

The floor fitter is coming in 1 week and so I will do the following in advance:

1) Cut out damaged carpet with a Stanley knife
2) Heat the affected area regularly

I just want to make sure the subfloor is dry so that the mouldiness doesn't remain when the floor is fitted

Does the approach make sense and is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks

rutar, good evening.

Cut away the Carpet and any underlay? if fitted

Now for a deviation from your plan? check carefully for any wood rot on the exposed surfaces of the timber floor, [indeed the floor may not be timber?] and on the Partition wall itself? if you find rot it will require to be removed.

If you can use a Fan to dry the exposed floor heat on its own is OK but air movement is better.

If the floor is indeed timber? then there may be wood rot in the Bathroom on the flooring?

Ken.

Hi,

So the bathroom has been completely refitted with the floor and the plasterboards being replaced.
If I see wood rot on the exposed surfaces on the timber and the wall partition what do I need to do?

Thank you

Depends how bad it is. If it's superficial then you can ignore it. If not then get back to us...!
