Hi,

I'm looking to either DIY my patio or get a builder to do the work for me. My first questions are around what needs to be done on my patio which measures 13 x 4.3m (or which 4 x 4.3m is the additional raise up section on the photos).

Originally a friend suggested that it's "nice" to have the inside ground level the same as the outside so when the bi fold doors are open it'll "flow" straight out into the garden on one level.

Speaking to other people, the suggest that it's a terrible idea as the levels will be the same and I'll bridge my DPC gap. The also said that currently the situation I have is "not great" as there's not the required level of drop between the inside/outside level.

What do you guys on here think please?

You can achieve same level if prepared correctly but you seem to have a sill which would prevent that.
I would dig out the higher side to achieve one level.

Thanks. I've had a quote for replacing the doors as they are not the configuration I want and the larger set had a manufacturing fault where they catch and don't open/close properly. I've had them adjusted and a few people look at them but to cut a long story short, they need replacing anyway.

So... with this in mind, the person who quoted to replace them said that he could put a special sill in in order to allow for the same level. So, with that in mind, my questions is... should I dig down or bring the level up?

Thanks for advice and help.

It's not complicated, they allow you to support paving a given height above the ground, eradicating your problem.

No problems at the moment although the bottom brick does look quite weathered. I think you can see what I mean in some of the photos.
