What wattage LED security light is more than adequate?

Im still used to the old days of 500 watt flood lights at £20 a go from the big sheds.
Given that the thinner and longer lasting LED security lights come around 10 to 20 watts and produce about 100-200 old style wattage brightness, what type and wattage security sensor light should I be looking for?

This will be used for a rear/side extension facing the road but some 25m away from the road at the end of a shared drive.

Seeing as 500 watt ones are now banned due to light pollution, similar output LEDs would cause similar light pollution, use the 10 to 20 watt ones that are available.

I fitted a 30 watt led flood light and it is too bright, get a 20 watt one.

Building regs Part L1 was amended about 5 years ago. 150watts (in old money) is the max permitted now

In terms of the question posed in the title of this thread, I personally don't think it matters much how bright or dim a 'security' light is ....

Some would-be burglars (or vandals, or whatever), particularly youngsters or the more 'amateur' criminals, will be 'frightened off' by triggering a security light, and will abandon the property regardless of how dim the light is.

Bolder or more thick-skinned people (and maybe those who believe that the property is unoccupied) may well not be fazed by the light coming on (regardless of how bright it is) - and, indeed, may even welcome some illumination to help them see how to perform their criminal activities.

Ups it seems my outside light does not comply, it does not have sockets? At my house around 5W replacement tube, enough to see getting out of the car, where not already lit by street light, mothers house 10W enough for carers to see the combination on key safe, as far as intruders are concerned I am quite happy if they step into my pond and break their leg, they have no business being there and I see no reason why I should have intruder lamps to help them navigate my garden. I have never worked out why people install lamps to help people who are likely out to rob them?

For myself in the main if it shows me where safe to step that's all I want, the whole idea of being in the garden at night being bitten to death by all the insects does not appeal although I may want to walk to shed to get another bottle. Whole reason for 10W in mothers house is there was not a 5W version on offer. And 10W is more than ample. OK when my neighbour installed a 300W lamp which was keeping my wife awake as it switched on and off, I installed a 70W Metal Halide so she would not notice it switching on and off, when he stopped using it, I removed the 70W lamp as it was really OTT.

As far as I am aware the size of outside lamp is limited in watts without planning permission not lumen output, the latter would make sense so they will not do it!
