Ideal Boiler Prob

Can someone please help with this?
My Ideal ISAR HE 30 Boiler has got a couple of minor water leaks, one from the pump 'flange' where it joins onto the body of whatever it is behind it (excuse my lack of pro knowledge) which is evident only by the scale that has built up around the 'flange'. Second even slower leak is from the bottom of the heat exchanger where a black circular plastic type fitting joins onto the exchanger.
Two gas engineers have diagnosed the same causes and said the gaskets on both need to be replaced which they could do, but for two weeks now they both say they are waiting for prices etc for the gaskets.
My local Plumb Centre tell me that these gaskets do not show on their parts list.
Does anyone know if these are available or is there another way to stop these leaks with LS sealant or the like?
Is this job too problematic too small for a gas engineer?
Pro advice would be appreciated.

Do not use LS, get an Ideal fixed price repair if you want to persevere with this pile of junk

U will need a new hex at £400 odd and a new pump and manifold at another £150-£200.
Get a new boiler.

ianmcd, I understand your comments, and those read elsewhere on this site but one can only say as it is and apart from this current problem the Boiler has given no problems over several years.

What I find most disappointing is the lack of honesty from Gas "Engineers" by simply not giving an honest opinion on the problem or declining to quote etc instead of leaving paying punters like me with a very poor impression of their trade by saying nothing.

I can see how the generally more expensive big national`s like BG can keep so many customers. In the most they do turn up and communicate.

Unfortunately you are a bit disillusioned there about big companies, you have just picked the wrong engineers, Shambolic is the expert on these ,so heed his advice or get an Ideal fixed price repair, you will save a lot of money that way, but as Shambolic says you would be better with a new boiler, these are a pile of worry to be polite

@micktheminer if Shambolic says you need a new boiler, you need a new boiler - he's one of the most knowledgeable engineers in the country when it comes to Ideal boilers. You're really not going to get better advice from anyone else

Aw shucks guys.
I'm only saying as even our fixed price repair is over £400 if hex involved.
I did 2 yesterday and as well as the hex the PCB, user control, pump, detection lead and STrap and hose were required.
I never ordered these jobs just went to fit parts as I'd have BER (beyond economic repair) both jobs on first visit.
Do the Hex etc and the expansion vessel will probably be done. (Boiler off the wall to replace that part).
The boiler is probably over 10yrs old and to spend that amount to keep it runnng when a new Logic with 7 year warranty could be had instead.

At this price would they be cutting corners ?

always found the best place to work on an isar was in a skip as opposed to on the wall

Until the engineer diagnosis the leaking hex then it's an extra £150? You should have been told this on the phone.
If the boiler is really bad(it is by your description). The ideal eng with deam it BER and you will be charged £60 from your £290 and will still need a new boiler.
These costs are approximate as they may have changed recently.

I'll add to the number of pro's here, advising you (for free) that you should bite the bullet and get a new boiler.

Collectively, we could probably fill a telephone directory with the number of customers (over the years) who have tried to 'save money' by slinging it at their BER boilers (against advice), only to then have to fork out soon after for a new one.

It is a false economy. Same thing happens with vehicles... people need them but don't want to spend money on stuff that is not a consumer 'must have'

is this just the pump and trap (seals) leaking?, bit drastic to scrap it for that unless the aluminium sump connection is actually corroded. Who has replaced the heat exchanger on an istor?, that was the job that gave me a hatred of these boilers for ever!
