Hi all,
I need to fix a curtain rail to curved (quarter circle) coving. It's an old house so I assume the coving is moulded plaster. The only idea I have is to chisel out a recess for the brackets, but I'm worried it won't look too good. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will most likely have to chisel recesses. If only to get the brackets to stick out horizontally rather than being on a wonk caused by the curvature.

If you fix through the coving you might be able to get away with long screws and plugs that go through into the solid plaster or brick of the wall underneath.

Never seen a curtain rail fitted to coving - surely asking for problems? Could you fit a timber lath beneath and fix the rail to that?

Your spot on there, consider attaching the rail to the wall or ceiling.
There are plenty of curtain rail tracks and fittings available but trying to fit an existing rail could be a bad idea,as mentioned photos of the plaster cove will help to identify a product.

Why do you NEED to make a mess of your coving?

is there some reason that you can't lift the floorboards upstairs and mount to the ceiling?
you might even get away without lifting the floor if the joists run the right way

Customer has changed their mind, so all good.
Thanks for your replies folks.
