And only 10% of homes have CO monitors fitted, because they have solid fuel or open burners, so you can't equate the figures like that James, but I now where you're coming from. If the bullets got your name on it, it'll get you where ever you're standing.

Doggit - agreed, the 30 deaths are presumably from the relatively small number of people who have higher risks due to choice of appliance, but here is the advice from London Fire Brigade:

'If you live in a property that has gas appliances such as cookers, heaters and gas fires or solid fuel-burning appliances, such as a wood burner or coal fire, you should install a carbon monoxide alarm'

They are telling the 50 - 60 odd million people who live in houses with any gas appliances that we should install CO monitors despite that population only having a 1 in 600 million risk, per day, of dying from CO poisoning

The reason the death rate is so low might be due to the fact that in the properties where A) CO alarms might be required, and B) where they are therefore fitted, they sometimes work.

On the other hand, the death rate might be so low, simply because the risk of CO poisoning, are being blown out of all proportion. We have 3000 road deaths each year, but that's ignored because we need cars, but you get 30 deaths from CO poisoning, and the worlds going to end.

I'm all for being careful, but I think the nanny state is rearing it's ugly head here; or is it the fire alarm industry that's pushing the agenda, as it's Fire Angel that supplies smoke alarms to the fire service.

Life is a terminal disease, and you can slow it down, but you can't stop it.

Mine of course, where else would I be. Come on Nakajo, they try and cut down 30 deaths a year from CO poisoning, and threaten legislation to do so, but only legislate for what happens after a road fatality.
