Hive Installation

Hi, I have just installed a Hive Active Heating with Hot Water System and when switched on the receiver light indicate all is well.
Pressing the receiver hot water switch displays a green solid light and the boiler starts & runs ok.
Pressing the receiver heating switch displays a solid green light but the boiler does not fire up.

I have disconnected the thermostat 3 core & earth cable from the connection box in the airing cupboard & moved the white cable that was connected to the now disconnected yellow cable & connected it to the remaining two red cables.

At the programmer/receiver end I originally had the terminals N, L, 1, 3 & 4 connected to the old programmer - i changed this so that I only have N, L, 3 & 4 connected (I disconnected the blue wire that went to the old terminal 1 position & isolated it), any ideas why heating is not firing up? Thanks.

Unfortunately that description doesn't help. The colour of the wires and method of connection would be dependant on the personal preferences of the installer and the materials he had to hand.

When you disconnected the original thermostat where the terminals that you removed the two live wires from, should be joined together. The third neutral wire can just be removed.

If your system has a three port motorised valve and the blue wire you are referring to (sorry, again the colour doesn't help) was originally connected to the 'hot water off' terminal at the previous programmer it will need to be reconnected to terminal 1 at the Hive ('hot water off') 3 port valves need this to move to the heating only position. If it is not present. If it is needed and you haven't connected it that will definitely prevent the heating coming on.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply Stem.

I have just re-instated the blue wire to the receiver terminal 1 Hot Water Off terminal, (as per original wiring) and the boiler now fires up when calling for heat.

I was thrown by the Hive instructions that state for terminal 1 Hot Water Off (NC) & terminal 2 Heating Off (NC) - taking it that both these terminal were not connected (NC)!

Good, glad it's sorted.

Terminal 2 is rarely used, probably in less that one, in one hundred installations. Terminal 1 is much more frequently required, in about 60 to 70% of the installations. As I said before, the systems that have a 3 port valve use it.
