Large Format/A2

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with A2 printers? I've currently got an A3+ which is fine but I'd like something bigger for when I'm working through drawings for jobs.

So it doesn't need to be photo quality, however I'd like to limit myself to £400, so if I could find a decent second hand unit that would be fine.

However a lot of the reviews I'm seeing are mixed and the price ranges differ a bit. Anyone else use large format?

Check out ebay as a starting point. I've got a Brother A3 printer, and it's effectively an A4 that prints sideways, but whether you'll get something as innovative for a second hand printer that £400, I'm not sure.

try searching for a plotter instead of a printer and you should get better results ebay has the HP Designjet 500 for around £350 which is a refurbished printer which should do what you want.

An A3 printer that is "effectively" an A4 that prints sideways to give an A3 print print? Now that I would like to see. An A3 printer is an A3 printer that is also capable of printing A4, all the ones that I have had any dealings with do and I have two A3 printers here in front of me.

I do not understand what you are trying to say, on the first post he said he wants to use it for printing drawings if it is only for drawings and not photos then a plotter will do it and they work out much lower in cost than printers the downside is that they take much longer to output the drawings as they use a pen in place of a print head and they print each line separately and do not just go from side to side printing everything that is under the print head on each pass.

The HP T120 is one of the few wide format printers available without spending thousands.

Its arount £750 incl VAT does A1.

Pen plotters? Poppy - get with the times - they are all but obsolete.

There are inkjet plotters now, the paper comes on a roll and they print quite fast.
I used one for upto A0 size prints at a previous job, as long as the input data was high quality the output was good, much faster to print (and dry) than a pen plotter, takes sheet or rolls of paper (rolls is far easier to manage).

Although from new they exceed your budget, have a look in places like Gumtree - I see one for £280 that will do the job.
I have sometimes seen pen plotters thrown out (next to a skip) because they just wanted to replace them with something that's less messing around. Pity I could not carry them home (nor had the space to keep one).
