Where do we start when buying a new boiler?

Firstly, I feel it's necessary to state that i'm a new home owner and relatively new to the site, so apologies for the lack of expertise.

Since buying our house in Leeds, It's become apparent that we are having more hassle than its worth with out boiler and have agreed to put some of our savings aside to buy a new one.

The trick is, I have absolutely no idea where to start. I've spoke to a couple of local installers and even though they were helpful it seems like they told me the best one to get in this situation. My fear is that the other company, Help-Link have told me something completely different.

We know we need a Combi Boiler but have no idea what brands we need to be looking at in regards to how expensive it would be. We're a young couple so saving money on our gas is our priority.

We've obviously googled it but everything that comes up is either ecommerce or just an article. I need like an actual comparison.

I'd say don't over think it.

I went to my local place for a Worcester, because I had one in my last house and it worked. They talked me into an Intergas instead so I bought one of those.

When we got our first house we had a Biasi, I wouldn't have another of those.

Find an installer with some good feedback (Facebook page with reviews or similar) and go with a boiler that has a long warranty.

A lot of trades people on here will probably advise you not to waste people’s time but I got quotes from 4 different people before deciding who to go with. I used British Gas as my first quote for a worst case scenario in price and went from there.

You will always get the given company's preferred manufacturer, which unfortunately isn't always driven by the best in quality & price, rather by incentives.

As already said, find an installer that is recommended and ideally that has been in business for some time to ensure you are guaranteed ongoing/future support.

If you have a preferred plumber or plumbing firm, it may well be that they have a manufacturer that they are particularly familiar with. If they are also the local warranty perosn for that make, it is likely that they will carry spares, which could get you up and running quicker in the event of a breakdown. The other school of thought would be to go with a very popular brand like Worcester. They might cost a bit more than some others, but due to their popularity, are widely supported and spares are easy to come by.

How do you know that ? If the existing boiler is a combi then maybe some of the hassle is because a combi is not the best option for your house and life style.

Sometimes people get combi and condensing confused.

A new boiler is not they way to do that.
While a new boiler may use slightly less gas than an older one, the savings are insignificant compared to the cost of the boiler.

Decent amounts of insulation and proper controls for the boiler, as well as using it correctly will save far more.

Rubbish.I give advice based on the fact I go out and repair boilers everyday for a living..so I know a bit about it

That post doesn't say he's a student -just he is in a student house at that time.
I was living in student houses for a couple of years after graduating, also I bought a house while I was renting still and had an overlap anyway. Doesn't seem like anything to worry about on the face of it.
