I'm going to have an induction hob and an electric oven below it. There's already a 6 mm2 cable in place. I want to have two individual switches above the worktop, one for the hob and one for the oven. The induction hob will be hardwired, the oven plugged in.

Obviously the switches will be to the side of the hob, but the socket for the oven and the hardwire connection will be below the worktop and behind the oven I guess for access? In that case, wouldn't the heat from the oven be an issue?
How do you run the cable from the switch above the worktop to the outlet plate? The two won't be in line. When burying cable in plaster, the cable can only travel in straight lines vertically or horizontally...

The attached image might help to show what I'm trying to do. Cooker switch to the right above the worktop and electrical connection below the worktop - what route does the cable take?

In place to where?

That would be "for access hindrance", surely, if it's behind a built-in oven?

You'd hope that the oven would be insulated, and not wasting energy cooking the cabinet it's installed in.

The cables will run down from the switches and across to the outlets.

Where are you going to run the cable for the hood?

How's the wiring for the hood supposed to be? I haven't reached that far. I thought i'd just plug it in?

It's largely a personal thing - I hate seeing cooker hoods (or extractor fans, or indeed any fixed appliance) plugged in. Ideally I don't want to be able to see any fixed cabling or flexes of fixed appliances.

But from a regs, safety, common practice etc, POV, cooker hoods are often supplied as you describe.

Well, if the plug and socket are hidden behind, you wouldn't see, you wouldn't know.
I mentioned the socket for the oven going behind it. This is what I've seen most of the time. Is the best place for access in the adjacent cupboard then?
Or maybe behind is fine if there is a switch above the worktop?

There is no compulsion to have a switch at all, although many people like to have one. Since it's not compulsory, it follows that, if you chose to have one, you could put it wherever you like.

Kind Regards, John
