Prv pipe

When I had a new boiler fitted a few months back, they did something rather odd with the prv pipe...

Yes, that bit off pipe that comes straight down.! Is there any good reason for it not being bent towards the wall? When I get this boiler in a housing, the boxing off of the pipes underneath is going to end up so much bigger because of this pipe.

As it isn't gas, although I understand it is a safety device, can I re-pipe this myself to get it closer to the wall?

We had something similar where building control wanted 45 degree bends for flow when we had to extend the pipe through the rafters of an extension. He didn't want 90 degree elbows used.

What the fek has he done with the condensate?Good luck swapping the fuse in that spur too.

Actually there is enough room to get to the fuse. The condensate he has put into wastepipe as he reckoned it would be less susceptible to freezing in the winter - can't say I was convinced

If the boiler is in a garage then he is right. It looks a less than optimal job.

Was it stipulated that the future boxing was to be minimised? If not then tough. A couple of extra bends can be added, but either do it yourself or pay the guy to adjust it to your needs.

If you're intending to jam the boxing tight up to the bottom of the boiler, be aware that it might need to be ripped out again for boiler maintenance. Check minimum clearances in the boiler installation instructions and preferably design everything to be easily removable

i would of elbowed the white pipe and taken it through the wall.Neater and smaller hole.Looks a bit naff in the pic.

JHC... Its the old "why did you put those pipes there" scenario... "oh, sorry... You mean those pipes that you didn't consider would need to exist, until I put them there!"

Pi-Fi doesn't come out until next year, unfortunately.

It's in a garage? The fitter probably hadn't even thought that you might box it in. Being in a garage.

Unless you specified or mentioned something, then I see no problem with it.

We do not know where it goes, there maybe a good reason for the position. On the other hand, it may be down to immediately available resources

The boiler is in a kitchen that is just being renovated. The old boiler had the pipes boxed in close to the wall so thought the replacement would end up similar .

Looking at the installation manual, it does state that the supplied prv pipe should be installed and "do not shorten". So he installed it then stuck the 90 degree on the end as seen in the pic.

As it happens I had another gas fitter around this week and I asked him about it, it is now routed much closer to the wall which will make the boxing much slimmer.
