Fall through the ceiling

Swmbo was up in the loft with me, she saw me fall and tried to grab me and unwittingly also stepping onto the plasterboard.

What's the best way forwards? Cut out and refit new plasterboard?

Two matching ceiling hatches? Seen that done on site before now!

With the above poster - new loft hatches! Otherwise cut to mid joist / remove boards. New boards in / part boards in. Tape seams/joins and then with a new ceiling intact - although not pretty you can hunt for an elusive small job plasterer... Or wait until you have more plastering that needs doing?

I would also wait until you've done whatever you were doing in the loft above other rooms before calling them...

"Get a plasterer in." Good luck with that. Tradesmen these days only want to do jobs for £20,000 or more. They are not interested in tiny jobs like that. Tried to get, so called, tradesmen to plaster a room for me. out of five that I rang only one answered and he looked and that was the last I heard of him.

Tell me about it. Annoying really, you would think they want the trade. A couple of years ago I rang a decorator to do my stairs and landing, made an appointment he never turned up. His loss, I did it myself in the end saving me a lot of money and it looks good, happy he never turned up. Last couple of weeks I have rang two plumbers to come and have a look at my boiler. Guess what the same. I will never ring back, if they can not be bothered to turn up to look, that tells me I have had a lucky escape. Waiting on a family members friend now to look in a few days after his holiday.

Been there, except I fell through and landed up on the bathroom floor, after feeling 'lucky' I had landed in the only area on the floor that didn't have the washbasin, loo, bath, or shower I found I was straddling the electric cables! Got a local plasterer to quote and he sorted it out for me, patched up the holes with new plaster board and reskimmed to blend in, brilliant job, then I just painted. (I fell through as I was catching mice and heard the humane trap go off, clicking away, I didn't want poor mousey to be in there for any longer than necc, so dashed up to retrieve the trap and promptly fell through the plasterboard, mouse and all. Mouse was fine btw!). Get a reliable person in to do it all if you can. Ask around for recommendations.
