I've never managed to do so directly as you can in the forum. So, I upload them to my media using the camera icon, or the media tab, and then from there they can be inserted into a conversation

You can add them directly like wot they can be in a forum post but you have to click the "More Options" button when creating the PM and do it then.

I have just looked, it works the same way messages do.
do your forum options prevent you using the full editor?
Ask diynot if not.

So when you send a PM you can copy an image into your copy buffer and paste it into the message?

Not yet. I was going to use an old photo bucket account but it’s got loads of crap on it so i’ve got the Flickr app and trying with that by putting the image link onto the postcard icon on here
