Smashed Asbestos CWST

Hello All

An awkward one I have.
Just started an Heating job on an empty house to be rented out. The Land Lord has done the strip out.

Started work a couple of days in and there was an asbestos CWST tank in the way of the new route for the boiler flue.

I asked them to remove it, and explained how best they do it.

They smashed it up and left it in the loft in pieces.

We don't have to work in the loft, but below where the tank was so bits are about on the floor where we are working.

I've got s good relationship with this fella, I just not sure how to go about this, as I can't believe how stupid this intelligent young man has been.

Help me, how do I approach this.

Bod

Tell him how stupid he was or he may do it again.

Ask him to call in an asbestos removal firm to clear up and give a full report detailing the area is now safe.

If not then bill for your time and materials and walk away.

Andy

As per others advice you need reassurance it's removed and safely in accordance with regs, after all it's your health.

Maybe he's not that intelligent after all?

Seems amazing you gave advice on how to do it safely, which he has disregarded.

I dont know what sort of asbestos that is, and what the risk level would be, but you shouldnt have your safety compromised due to somebody elses attitude.
The key is the type of asbestos used.

Its a difficult one, I realise its easy on a forum to refuse going back. All you can do is assess the risk and decide what to do.

I cant help feeling the way its been broken up, means fibres will have spread around, which you may disturb.

My neighbour had a flood. The guys that came to strip out the flooring discovered laminate tiles with asbestos. The insurers made my neighbours leave the house, and take their stuff. They then live in a hotel for 3 months while the place was decontaminated.

My understanding is that the Cold water tanks are a low risk on the scale of risk.
That's in a solid form. Any cracks or chips I'd advise spraying with a suitable glue spray... I think that's beyond that now..

A better way to get that message across would be to report him and have him, hopefully, prosecuted.

I just want an easy outcome. I don't want to pull anyone's pant or knickers down. The thing is I've stopped 90% of my London work in part because being put in these awkward situations not too dissimilar to this.

I'll send him a text asking for him to get this sorted. I'd rather this doesn't get messy

He clearly DGAS.

But if in the interests of a quiet life for you you want him to remain unmolested while he goes about his lethal practices, I'm sure that like anybody else with no morality or conscience you'll have no problems in justifying it to yourself.

Spoke with friend who does insurance work. He's put me in touch with an asbestos company. I'll say I want this cleared professionally to my customer.

Yes he's been thick but he's a reasonable fella so I'm hoping he will do the right thing.
