I assume you understand how polls work. If not, I'm happy to explain, as will so many others, I suspect.

What percentage? The percentage of the respondents in the poll that gave a particular response? I'm assuming the figures supplied were correct. I haven't checked them.
Or the percentage of those polled to the general population? That's irrelevant because in conducting a poll one does't start with the overall population and work backwards to get a percentage of the population responding. Who would decide what percentage was required? That could lead to a skewed result because the pollster might select an over representation of a certain category of person. Telephone polls are one such example of how an over-representation of one type of person can result to skew the poll. Telephoning home numbers during the daytime for instance.
One usually starts with sub-divisions of society and aims to poll a set number of people within those sub-divisions which reflects how the sub-divisions are represented in society. But there are various methodologies. Usually the methodology employed is included in the explanation of the poll.
Another method might be selecting people at random but including questions so that they can be categorised which is then used to calculate the dispersion of that type of person in society in general.

Edit:
1.2 million as at 2013.
therefore 1089 is a little under 0.1% of the total eligible voters.

Polls are rubish and for BAS to make those claims is rediculous.

I just did a poll in my van, I was trying to figure out what percentage of people on the motorways of England were men.

I polled 2 people and found that 100% of motorway users in England are men. Further to that I found 50% of motorway user are 40years old with theother 50% being 22years old.

As you have shown polls can be unreliable depending on the methodology employed.
To suggest all are rubbish is like suggesting all tools are rubbish because Aldi's are rubbish. (I don't know anything about Aldi tools)
You need to investigate and criticise the methodology of the relevant poll, not rubbish them all.
