Buying British

Should there ever be any jobs where people employed at them full time don't earn enough to support a family?

Interestingly, some of the strongest support in the USA for the idea that the minimum wage should be a living wage comes from grass-roots Trump supporting Republicans - they think that if someone is in full time work he ought to be able to support himself and his family.

So UK workers find it harder to do the same jobs that was previously done by EU workers?

UK workers find it harder to compete in a job market where workers from abroad can earn 3x their minium wage with a lower cost of living compared to UK nationals.

Are you really this simple? I provided figures and everything.

If the work and wages was so carp in this country why have so many Eastern Europeans come here instead of say Germany which is on the same continent as them?

So what you really meant is that the work is not economically viable for UK workers?

What was that you said about stretching semantics?
Are you now saying that the work is economically viable for UK workers, and that UK workers can just as easily do the work?
Is that explanation correct?

I'm not saying now anything other than what I've already said.

It really does seem to me that your argument was based on the work not being economically viable for UK workers.
But you seem to have refuted that now.
So if that was not your argument, what was your argument?

Completely ignores the cost of living for different people.
The same minimum wage will provide a lot more for someone sharing accommodation with other seasonal workers than it would someone trying to pay for a mortgage and feed your average family of four.

If the cost of living is higher here, people in the UK will find it harder to do the same work for the same money compared to someone with a cheaper cost of living from abroad.

No where in that statement did I say they won't (unable or unwilling), I said it's harder for them. ... The fact is up until now the jobs have been filled and so far there's nothing to suggest that they won't continue to be; only the presumption it would be unlikely due to the fall in the pound.

Increasing the minimum wage is not always the answer, it solves some problems and creates others.

So we want to buy British but not pay British workers enough - makes perfect sense. (y)

Hughes and three other university students are the only Brits harvesting berries at the Snell family farm this summer, out of a workforce of 300.

“That's quite something, isn't it?” says Christine Snell who owns the award-winning, environmentally sensitive farm with her husband, Anthony. “We want to get the message across: If we could recruit British workers, we would, but we cannot.”"

That's because living by other means is so much easier for them. Why work, when you can just sit at home, do nothing and the money rolls in with little effort.

So people who spend money to go to University would prefer to then waste that education by sitting at home to claim Universal Credit? Makes perfect sense.

Are you referring to the Snells?
Do you honestly think that agriculture is simply sitting at home and waiting for the money to roll in?

Funnily enough the number of migrants to Germany from other EU countries is approximately 30% higher per head of population than migrants to the UK from other EU countries...

And that percentage is rising...

Notchy gets it wrong yet again!
