Help to find correct M6 T-slot bolt/nut for LED profile please?

I'm trying to find a T bolt or nut that will fit into this track. All the ones I can see have the wrong shape, or are slightly too thick. I found some thin headed ones but they are too wide for the slot.

For background, I won't be suspending this fixture, It'll be stood on end, portable, battery powered from a Makita 18V pack, and filled with 624 addressable RGB LEDs and used to provide effect lighting for a band. There'll be 4 or 5 of them.

I'd like to attach the fixture to a tripod using the T-Slot and a lighting clamp arrangement. But 1st I need a T bolt. Ideally I don't want to drill through to the inside and bolt it that way, as I like the flexibility of the T-slot.

External Groove width - 6mm (An M6 bolt will fit and slide into the groove)
Internal Groove width -10mm
Groove depth - 3mm (narrowest) to 4mm (widest)

Given that "an M6 bolt will fit and slide into the groove", is your only problem that you can find a square/rectangular-headed bolt (so as to prevent rotation)?

If so, I would have thought that if you just used a standard M6 bolt, you would be able to get it to 'catch' into the aluminium enough to enable you to tighten it.

... or am I misunderstanding the issue?

He's only got that 2.9mm to fit into, the heads are too tall.

M6 "half nuts" exist, but sadly they seem to be 3.2mm tall, as are DIN 562 'thin square nuts'.

Probably easier to make your own from some 10mm by 2.5mm flat bar stock. Drill and tap an M6 thread, then saw it off to, say, 20mm long. Longer nuts slide nicer BTW, instead of jamming up constantly.

When he wrote "an M6 bolt will fit and slide into the groove", I assumed that he meant with the head of the nut in the slot - but perhaps he didn't.

If the head of an M6 boot were too tall to fit in the groove, if it were me I would simply grind or sand the head down to the required height and then, as I said, rely on 'catching' to prevent rotation whilst lightening a nut onto the bolt. Indeed, I might well introduce some imperfections into the 'bottom' (thread end) of the head of the bolt to enhance that 'catching'.

... or am I still misunderstanding?

to clarify - I meant the threads of an M6 bolt will slide into the groove, not the head. Yes I could grind down my own, but thought I'd ask if there was anything ready made. Cheers :)

Fair enough.

Given the relatively low weight of what you're dealing with, do you actually need M6? As far as I can make out, an M4 panhead or cheesehead machine screw would have a head height of 2.4 mm (and, with a head diameter of ~8mm, would not slip through the slot). If you were concerned about it 'rattling about' (and/or not being centred) in the slot, you could even put a tiny bit of ~1mm thickness 'collar' around just the bit of thread which went thought the tract.

... just a thought! I personally would probably just grind down the head of an M6 bolt, which should only take 'a few seconds'!

That could work, a little bit needs filing off the top because they'll be 3.3mm(k) at the highest point. And the head is 15mm(d1) round, so can be filed down two sides to 10mm to fit in the slot.

From what i recall the slot is for a sort of rectangular sort of nut with a threaded hole in it, the stud or suspension hook then screwed in with the thread protruding through, digging into the back of the track and once tight it was not intended to slide.
 
If you're in a hurry, try a large garden centre and ask for greenhouse spares, although the bolts may only be available in ali.
 
They're also readily available without the attached 'rings'.

As has been said, they can usually be found in big garden centres, and also the likes of Homebase and B&Q etc. I'm not sure exactly what there dimensions are (but I think I have some in cellar, and will have a quick measure in a moment!)
