Compromise...

obviously the leavers need to get together and agree among themselves what is the best Leave they recommend to the nation.

it's pointless having a vote for something and then afterwards arguing what it is

like the Tories have spent three years doing (and still are).

I dont hear any leavers, public or politiicans say what they want, they only want to talk about 'it was the will of the people'.

The result of the second could only be of importance of the first question had a majority leave vote.

If the majority vote remain then the second question has no impact.
But as the last three years have shown us, the level of minutiae of the debate (when there is a close result and conflicting interests) is never ending!
52 to 48 remain, but 52 to 48 for a no deal would again be (to borrow farage's rhetoric) 'unfinished business'!

Thus would it not be better to not hold the second should remain win the first?

Also, one other thing that has come out of all of this for me personally...

I've never been in favour of compulsory voting, but now I'm not so sure.
The turnout would almost certainly be higher, and could the result not then have more legitimacy?
Would it end some of the arguments?

I understand what you're saying but if we're to go with the idea that we have a clearer idea of what no deal could now mean the result would be have to be accepted a second time round in either csse.

Compulsory voting is a bit of a naff idea in my mind when all the options are ****e anyway. You don't buy what you don't want.

Jeremy Corbyn’s spokesman on whether retaining free movement will be one of his demands in talks with May: “Freedom of movement ends when we leave the EU and we will replace it with fair management of migration.”

Corbyn wants a hardish Brexit. Lol

The Aussies have compulsory voting.

$20 fine if you dont vote.

Single Market. Freedom of Movement.

Another vote in 2 parts.

Is it democratic to have another vote yes or no
If yes wins.
Stay or out with no deal

Hence why I originally qualified my point with:
"Make the next referendum legally binding. And legislate that the issue doesn't get visited again for a lengthy period of time, unless the majority in parliament is the same as that required to alter GE timings as in the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act."

That's why I said, "I've never been in favour of compulsory voting, but now I'm not so sure."

Not an affirmation of it's merits (or not), just an observation...

I'd however definitely advocate a change in the UK GE voting system from the archaic FPTP to PR...

That would give a greater choice to the electorate.

You surely can only have a compulsory vote ( not a terrible idea) If non of the above is an option ( sorry, may have been stated before)

We have already voted so there's no need for a second vote. A second vote is what happened to other countries that tried to leave the EU, so don't be seduced into that. We voted to leave, not for trade deals. Talk of deals only happened after the result was announced. Theresa May has "negotiated" in bad faith ever since and only wants us to remain.

Change the damned record
Im sorry, but it is true.

Im no fan of the EU, but Im even less keen on Brexit which has now become a crisis.

If the withdrawal agreement goes through we will be have lube up and bend over when trade negotiations commence.

There already is a 'non of the above option' and it's called spoiling your ballot paper - in whatever way you see fit!
